Join the Fun and Make a Difference: Volunteer at the 2023 Camp Imagination
Are you looking for an exciting and rewarding way to spend your summer? Do you have a passion for the arts or working with children? Then consider volunteering at the 21st annual Camp Imagination at the Webb Center this June!
About Camp Imagination
Camp Imagination is a summer arts camp that offers students in first through twelfth grades the opportunity to explore a variety of performing, visual, technical, and culinary arts. This year’s musical production is Disney’s “The Lion King.” The two-week camp runs weekdays, with Session I from June 5-16, and Session II from June 19-30. Each session can accommodate up to 100 campers. The public performance for each session is on the second Friday at 6 p.m.
Become a Camp Imagination Volunteer
Volunteers play a vital role in making Camp Imagination a success. As a volunteer, you will assist with all aspects of the camp, from overseeing campers to assisting teaching artists in the classroom. No prior experience in the arts or with Camp Imagination is necessary, but you should be physically able to care for active children and eager to participate in camp activities.
“I keep coming back to camp because I love interacting with the kids and watching their journey over the two weeks. Many are shy and reserved when they start and then find their confidence and light up on that stage in the final show. I’m so proud of them all! Just thinking about it gives me goosebumps.”

Benefits of Volunteering
In addition to making a positive impact on the lives of young people in your community, volunteering at Camp Imagination also offers several benefits. Volunteers have the opportunity to pre-register their children, grandchildren, or other relatives for Camp Imagination before the lottery is opened to the general public on April 19. Priority is given to volunteers who are available for the full two-week session or at a minimum, one full week.
How to Apply
To apply to become a Camp Imagination volunteer, complete the application form found online at webbcenter.org/volunteering. Paper copies are available at the Webb Center Box Office. Sizzling Success at “Guys Who Grill”
11th Annual BBQ Competition & Fundraiser was a HUGE success.
Holy smokes! What an event, Wickenburg!
We’re talking 900 attendees, 15 kick-butt grilling teams, fantastic live entertainment, and one heck of a BBQ competition and fundraiser on Saturday, March 18 at the Wickenburg Community Center.
Wild Beaver BBQ took home the People’s Choice Award and donated their $250 winnings right back to Camp Imagination, helping raise a whopping $7,000.
Thanks to this event’s total of $13,000, Camp Imagination will be putting on a production of Disney’s “The Lion King” starring all 125 campers at the end of each 2-week session this June!
Talk about grilling for a good cause – you guys nailed it!

“Webb Center’s Second Annual Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast: A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Volunteers”
As many of you may know, our volunteers are a huge part of what makes the Webb Center such an amazing place to be. The dedication and hard work that they put into our organization is what truly sets us apart from the rest. That’s why we wanted to take a moment to thank them for all that they do.
The Volunteer Appreciation event was held on a beautiful Friday morning and the aroma of Chef Dulce’s delicious potatoes, bacon & sausage filled the room. Janet flipped pancakes while Spenser & Cathy whipped up omelets to order and Stephanie served a delicious assortment of fruits and pastries.
We served breakfast to the volunteers as a way to show our appreciation for their time and effort. It’s always nice to slow down and break bread together with the people who help make the magic happen.
During the breakfast, some of our volunteers were awarded with new hour markers on their nametags, indicating the amount of time that they’ve spent volunteering with us. It’s a small token of appreciation, but it means so much to our volunteers. It’s a visual representation of their dedication and hard work.
We want our volunteers to know that we see them and appreciate everything that they do.
This event is a favorite for the staff at the Webb Center. It gives us a chance to reconnect with our volunteers and thank them for all of their hard work. Without them, we simply couldn’t do what we do. We rely on them heavily to help us create a wonderful atmosphere for our patrons. It’s humbling to see how much they care about our organization and how much they want to help.
Speaking of our volunteers, the Webb Center has a long-standing reputation for excellent volunteer ushers, ticket takers, and greeters. We pride ourselves on having a team of volunteers who truly care about the work that we do. Krysten, our Digital Media Coordinator, told a group of volunteers, “they don’t write 5-star reviews about me, they write them about YOU!”
It’s true! Our patrons consistently rave about the helpful and friendly volunteers that they encounter while visiting the Webb Center. We couldn’t ask for a better team.
This event is in its second year, and it was all thanks to Cheryl Lampron, our amazing volunteer coordinator. Cheryl is a true gem and an essential part of our team. She’s the one who came up with the idea for the Volunteer Breakfast, and we’re so grateful that she did. It’s become a highlight of the year for our volunteers and staff alike. It’s a time for us to come together and celebrate all of the hard work that goes into making the Webb Center such a special place.
In conclusion, the 2023 Webb Center Volunteer Breakfast was a huge success. We’re grateful to all of our volunteers for everything that they do. They truly are the backbone of our organization, and we couldn’t do it without them. If you’re interested in becoming a volunteer at the Webb Center, we’d love to have you! Dance Residency Project Announces Premier
Red Sky Performance Announced Dance Residency Project Premier.
Miigis: Underwater Panther began creation in 2021, during the Company’s 2-week residency at the Webb Center.
Despite it’s birth in Wickenburg, AZ, significantly far from a body of water, Miigis: Underwater Panther is, indeed, about the movement of the ocean.
Miigis draws inspiration from the migration of Anishinaabe from the Atlantic Ocean to the Great Lakes. Specifically, the move from salt to freshwater.
During a two-week residency in 2021, Red Sky Performance began work on this moving program, premiering at Canadian Stage later this month.
Specifically commissioned by Canadian Stage, the project was supported by the Del E. Webb Center for the Performing Arts. The theater’s “Made in Wickenburg” Artist Residency hosts up to 3 artistic companies a year.
Miigis was directed and choreographed by Sandra Laronde, in collaboration with performers.
The original music showcases Red Sky’s unique aesthetic in this 60-minute program.
Representing the second creation in Red Sky Performance’s Miigis cycle, Underwater Panther focuses on the power of nature and Indigenous prophecy.
Red Sky embarks on an international tour following the two-week debut.
Miigis: Underwater Panther runs Jan. 22 to 29, 2023 at Toronto’s Berkeley Street Theatre.

Webb Center Awarded NEA Grant
The Del E. Webb Center for the Performing Arts received a National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Grants for Arts Projects award.
“This $10,000 Grant supports the Parsons Dance Company for a 2023 “Made in Wickenburg” Dance Residency,” said Cathy Weiss, Webb Center CEO.
David Parsons and his talented Company will create original work during a two-week stay in Arizona. The program offers an opportunity to create away from everyday pressures.
This grant is one of 1,251 Grants for Arts Projects that were announced by the NEA as part of its first round of fiscal year 2023 grants.
“Projects such as this one with the Webb Center strengthen arts and cultural ecosystems, provide equitable opportunities for
arts participation and practice, and contribute to the health of our communities and our
economy.”

Up to three residency projects are selected each year. The residencies are flexible in length up to 2 weeks and are available in October – December 2022 and January 2023.

We Banjo 3
We Banjo 3 is certainly one of the most prolific bands to emerge from Ireland in recent years, and they bring their “Open the Road” tour to the Webb Center in Wickenburg on Friday, Feb. 3 at 7:30 p.m.
“We love doing this. We’re grateful our audiences love it too. We get to pass that energy back and forth between the band members and the crowd throughout our shows.”
We Banjo 3
The band’s name, albeit misleading, stuck from their early days as a trio. Direct from Galway, Ireland – by way of Nashville, Tennessee – We Banjo 3 is actually two-sets of brothers. With especially charismatic lead vocals & pitch perfect harmonies – they create a particularly bright blend of Americana, bluegrass, and pop music–which sort of sounds like acoustic happiness.
We Banjo 3 – Enda & Fergal Scahill and Martin & David Howley – debuted in the U.S. in 2012. Following their first live show in Milwaukee, surprisingly instant darlings of the Irish American Festival circuit, the band continues pushing musical boundaries- particularly devoted to the essential live concert experience.

Although all four members do, indeed, play the banjo, Martin Howley also plays the tenor banjo and mandolin, as well as contributes to We Banjo 3’s cheerful, joyous sound. Martin holds seven “All Ireland” banjo titles and became the first Irish banjo player to grace the hallowed Grand Ole Opry stage in Nashville, TN.
Enda Scahill is the most accomplished and recognized banjo player of his generation.
He is an innovator who bridges the traditions of Irish music and the dynamic folk music of America. He was awarded the Steve Martin Banjo Prize in 2022, which recognizes banjo players across the world in any genre or style, including both four- and five-string banjos. The “Irish American News” wrote, “Enda does things on the banjo which should be impossible.”
Although this may be true, Enda and his fiddle-playing brother, Fergal, along with the brothers Howley, create something together on stage that borders on magical. With rolling banjos, soaring fiddle & mandolin runs, and vibrant guitar strums that swirl around their intoxicating vocals.
